AmmoCaster #001 – Handmade Reclaimed Military Ammo Box Guitar

Built from a genuine 1964 military ammunition box and carefully selected reclaimed guitar parts, the AmmoCaster #001 is a unique handmade instrument that combines history, craftsmanship, and character in a way that mass-produced guitars simply cannot.

This is the first guitar in the Nomad Strings range and has been built entirely by hand in Amazing Grace, our motorhome workshop.

The original military box retains its authentic markings, aged finish, dents, scratches, and signs of service, creating a guitar with genuine character and a story behind every mark.

Built to Be Played

Unlike many novelty guitars, the AmmoCaster was built with playability as a priority.

The guitar features:

  • Low comfortable action

  • Excellent intonation across the fretboard

  • Smooth fast-playing neck

  • Powerful humbucker bridge pickup

  • Additional neck pickup with blend control

  • Reliable modern hardware

  • Standard 6-string tuning

  • Weight approximately 3.8kg

The result is a guitar that looks unique but feels familiar in the hands.

Reclaimed Parts by Design

Every component used in this build has been reclaimed.

This was a deliberate decision rather than simply a cost-saving exercise.

Using brand-new parts would have looked out of place against a military box that already carries decades of history and character. Reclaimed components allow the entire instrument to feel authentic and visually cohesive, with each part complementing the aged military aesthetic.

Refinished Aged Copper Neck

The neck has been refinished in a metallic aged-copper finish and protected with a matt lacquer.

The finish feels smooth and fast under the hand and avoids the sticky feel often associated with gloss finishes.

Some cosmetic marks and small dings remain on the neck. These do not affect playability in any way and were intentionally retained as they complement the aged military appearance of the body.

The frets show little to no wear and provide a smooth playing experience across the entire neck.

A Genuine Piece of History

The original ammunition box is marked:

MK11964

and retains much of its original military stencil work.

While the exact service history of the box is unknown, it remains a genuine military surplus item that has been transformed into a fully playable electric guitar while preserving its original character.

One of One

This is not a production guitar.

There is only one AmmoCaster #001.

Once sold, this exact instrument can never be replicated.
